Catching up with Scotty NeSmith:

 Since we last left off with Scotty he has been rodeoing pretty hard. After leaving Wisconsin, Scotty traveled to Minnesota and then back down to Martin, Tennessee.  Next he headed to Kansas, Oklahoma, and Cheyenne. After Cheyenne Frontier Days he went down to Farmington, NM to the National Higschool Finals to help some of the kids. Then he was back to Kansas, Nebraska, Tennessee and then to Sikeston. Scotty drew some really nice horses at some of these rodeos but he said “right now my mental status is: disappointed and discouraged. I know I am not riding like I should be. I am sore and I am tired physically and mentally. At this point I know that the best thing for me is to take a break. I need to get rid of the body soreness, give my hand some time off and get things back in line.” When Scotty was asked about his game plan he said “ I am giving myself two weeks, I am going to head back to east Tennessee and see my family, stay on my diet of eating healthy  and a strict workout plan. I am going to get some time in on the spurring machine and get tuned back up and get on a bucking machine as well. Also, when I am not doing all that I am going to be shooting my bow, I am ready to hunt some deer!”

 Scotty will be back to hitting some rodeos in a couple of weeks………..stay tuned!

Did you know about the Horse?
I drew a horse named Lil Brother, he is a full brother to a horse named Brother that has been to the NFR. Lil Brother is a good horse.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
He leaned in the chute but other than that he was pretty good. We didn’t have to tie him in. The ride started well, he blew out and I started spurring him. He made a big move to the right and I stayed with him and was handling him good. About 5 seconds in to the ride, my right leg spurred over his neck and I couldn’t get a hold of him. This horse is so strong that he ripped 14 layers of tape in half jerked me down on my head in to the mud. That horse pretty much tortured me, he said “GET OFF” and I did. 🙂

 
At this point Scotty, what is your mental state? You have been going strong through Cowboy Christmas and doing a lot of driving, how are you physically and mentally? At this point I am very tired. I have been gone for 5 days and have had a total of about 10 hours sleep and exhaustion is setting in. Everything on my body hurts and is extremely sore. My elbows, my shoulders, groin, back, neck, just about everything is sore but by now my body has just gotten used to being in pain. I can really start to just block the soreness out, the big thing is being tired. When you sleep it isn’t a good sleep, you are sleeping sitting up in a vehicle, I am just looking forward to a good night’s rest.

Did you know about the Horse?
I drew Miss Daisy and I didn’t know her. I asked around and what I was told was she was a weak hopper.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
Miss Daisy blew out of the gate really well. She took to bucking well and she was kicking flat out behind her, not up over her head but flat. She felt really strong. I spurred her well and I was awarded 68 points! I think my score should have been higher but apparently the judges did not. 🙂

 
This was a good rodeo. They had a hospitality tent before the rodeo and I don’t eat before I ride so I didn’t get to really enjoy it. Justin Sports Medicine was at this rodeo. It was a good crowd and nice facility.

Did you know about the Horse?
I drew Rolly Polly. Everybody knows Rolly Polly. She has been to the NFR several times, she is a great horse.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
She wasn’t the best in the chute. She was rearing and anxious, just ready to go. She knows what she is about to do! I nodded and they cracked the gate and she tried to jump over it. She ran me down the gate and ran me off my riggin, but I did mark her out. The second jump, she came up off the ground and tried really hard to get me off. I started spurring and every jump she made I thought I may hit the ground. She was bucking so hard and so fast, she is the fastest horse I have ever been on. I got 80 points and ended up winning the rodeo! It was a nice paycheck and a great rodeo. This rodeo gives each performance winner $500.00. I thought that was so cool! I will go back just for that reason, they will keep contestants coming back if they continue that. I was really impressed!

Did you know about the Horse?
I drew 283 Indian Sign. I didn’t know the horse, so I asked behind the chutes about him. He was “supposed” to be the best horse there.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
The horse was fine in the chute, he was a bit nervous but stood well. He blew out nicely and jumped up in the air and kicked real hard.  On the next jump I started spurring him and he turned back to the left and just kept rearing up and spinning. Never really kicked he just whirled around. I did ride him and scored a 71. Since this horse didn’t really buck, I would have thought I would have had an option of a reride but no option so it is what it is.

 
Rodeo committee?
Hospitality was great. This was a good rodeo; it was my first time there. The scenery was beautiful, the arena was surrounded by mountains.

After this rodeo we headed out on a 17 hour drive to Window Rock, AK…stay tuned!

I drew 205 Cross Fire, and heard the horse was real good. I was anxious to get on him.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
Well the horse was real bad in the box. Reared up 2 or 3 times, wasn’t good at all, then he tried to smash me. So I just wanted to get on with the ride, and nodded, and he beat me out of the box.  The ride just wasn’t going well so I double grabbed and got off.

The rodeo committee was real good, and it was a good rodeo.

 Did you know about the Horse?
I saw him last year in Canada. I was real excited about getting on him, he is a real good horse.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
Well the horse wasn’t as good as I had hoped. He was a hopper and just didn’t perform the way I had wished he would have, plus they didn’t get a good flank on him either. It could have been better, but I still scored a 77 and placed 3^rd.

Rodeo committee?
The Rodeo Committee was absolutely the BEST EVER! I cant say enough good things about this rodeo, and the rodeo committee. It is a new rodeo, with this being its 2^nd year, and they have done such a good job with it.  They treat the contestants wonderful, they have a party afterward, and they do whatever they can to help us. They will come and get the contestants at the airport and take them back, it is just amazing. I am glad to be a part of this rodeo!

 Did you know about the Horse?
I did know the horse I drew. I have ridden him before and scored a 84 to split first.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would? I felt like I rode real well, it was the same trip, but the horse got weaker as the ride went on. He is a younger horse and just sort of weakened on me. I covered and scored a 78. One whole out of the money.

 Rodeo committee?
The Rodeo Committe was really good, and they put on a good rodeo. There was no hopsitality tent.

 I had to get to the airport in St. Louis to catch my flight to Boston for my next rodeo and thought for sure, someone would be going that direction. I literally asked everyone I could find and not ONE person was going that direction. I just knew I was going to miss my flight, but the stock contractor lent his truck, and a bullfighter took me to the airport, and I barely made it!

I didn’t know anything about the horse. He was a young horse and that is all I knew.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would? The horse jumped out of the gate and was a bit weak. After about four jumps he got fast and long and then got weak towards the end. I did spur him very well and I scored a 77. I got second.

The other riggin has really made a difference in my riding.

Did you know about the Horse?
I saw this horse at the UT Martin College rodeo in April, won the last round on him. He is a good horse just young.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would? This horse stood really well in the chute.  He blew out and had two good jumps and I was spurring him good. He moved on a bit and then started jumping in one spot for about 3 jumps and then circled around to the right. I really go in sync with him and just had a really good ride. I scored an 84 on this ride and split first! This is the type of ride that reminds you why you do this every day, this was a great ride.

This is a really good rodeo. The weather was great and the crowd was big. They had a nice hospitality tent, just a good fun rodeo!
