Taylor Earnhardt rode out of James Brown Arena and returned to her horse trailer with nary a soul bothering her.

The daughter of famed race car driver Dale Earnhardt Sr. still lives in relative anonymity in the vast world of barrel racing. On the other hand, she doesn’t mind it when people approach her wanting to talk about her NASCAR legend father, who crashed and died on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.

“I like it when people come up to me. I like to talk to people,” she said. “I’ll talk about whatever.”

She began riding horses at age 3 because of her father. He’d pick up his youngest daughter and place her in the saddle with him.

Taylor Earnhardt said life with “The Intimidator” was different at home than what NASCAR fans saw on a weekly basis.

“We saw the fun horse-riding, tractor-driving guy,” she said. (read more)

In the GLC do you have a favorite rodeo?
Absolutely!! It is a tie between Fort Madison IA and Fergus Falls MN!

Okay Lisa, being in Northern Wisconsin, how do you handle the cold???
Uhg!! I don’t handle it well! But I look at it as a necessary time off for my horses! So no matter how bad I want to go somewhere I know they need a break and the winter weather is there to remind me!

Did you grow up around horses and if so, when did you start rodeoing?
No I did not! I had a strong respect and love for horses and I just followed that love and used determination to get where I am today! I started actually rodeoing in the WPRA when I was 14yrs old! Oh my! I can’t believe I have been rodeoing that long!

We know it is nice to have sponsors, who has been supporting you this past year?
I have great sponsors!!!
Prime Performance Nutrition
Cowgirl Tuff Company
Horse Bac Microbial Supplements

When you arrive at a rodeo, what is your warm up routine?
It all depends on the horse! If I am on a young horse I need to make sure I get there early enough to get him in the arena. Then I like to relax and get my game plan for my run and as always remind myself to have fun! Cash was easy, I just had to show up and run! Having an old seasoned horse really can spoil a person so these past two years have been a wake up call as to how lucky I was to have Cash!!

Stay Tuned….more to come from this great PRCA Barrel Racer!

Are you keeping your facebook page?      Totally! We have 500 peeps on Facebook….we aren’t leaving facebook!

Will OTRR follow rodeo athletes in 2010? Yep, Interested in us following you?? EMAIL US!

So….. Blue Moon and Guinness, who are you???

I am about to tell ya! I go by the name of Blue Moon (can you guess what my favorite beer is?) and I grew up on a cattle farm. My father was a cattleman, calf roper and team roper. I grew up….On The Rodeo Road, sleeping in the sleeper of an old dually truck  with my twin sister traveling along with our Dad. When he wasn’t rodeoing and we weren’t riding along with him, we were raising feeder calves, riding roping horses and loving every minute of it!!  My twin sister, Guinness (guess what her favorite beer is) and I have done our fair share of ear tagging, dehorning and branding cattle. I am proud to say that everything I  learned about horses and cattle came from my father….The Tall Bearded Man. Well…….lots has changed since those days. The Tall Bearded Man passed away 10 years ago and  the family farm is now gone. I now work for a National Equine Publication and Guinness is keeping the tradition alive, she is in the cattle business. We both have barrel horses and are working hard to  head back down that rodeo road….won’t you join us and stay tuned….lots more to come!

Toodles!!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Rookie years in professional sports are often about young, talented athletes getting the opportunity to develop, and such is the case with Kaleb Driggers. The Georgia cowboy claimed the overall and team roping heading PRCA Rookie of the Year honors, but fell just short of a berth in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Dec. 3-12, in Las Vegas.

The near-miss is among the learning experiences Driggers, 19, has gone through as he has regrouped and is under way with the 2010 season.

“I didn’t necessarily want to end up 16th (in the 2009 PRCA World Standings), but I really didn’t head like I should have in the latter half of the year,” Driggers said.

Despite finishing $1,197 outside the top 15, Driggers is pleased and excited about his rookie honors and his future. (read more)

Hey OTRR Fans!!!

Well we have been on the “world wide web” for almost a year and it occured to us that many of you may not know the people behind the scenes of this website!! Wow, how weird is that? We looked back over the past year and we have followed some great athletes down the rodeo road. Amber Mostoller, Tracey Goodman, Spencer Turner and Scotty (Too Hotty) NeSmith all contributed to the site and we have loved every second of it! We can’t forget our “Been there and Done that” athletes that have come on to tell us how they  got it done. Brian Massey and Ashley Whyland were big hits to the site. As a close friend to Miss Ashley…..be warned…she will be back!! 🙂 Also, Lisa Novak has recently made an appearance and there is more to come from this amazing competitor. One of our bigger topics this year was “Justice For Dually.” OTRR can only hope that by getting the articles out about Dually,  and continuing to follow this tragic case, that justice will be served!!

Sooooooooooooooo, what is in store for OTRR in the next couple of weeks? months? year?? Well………….in the next couple of weeks you can expect to keep hearing from Lisa Novak and her trials and tribulations of being out on the rodeo road. Hmm…the next couple of months, you ask? I am so glad you asked because we will be in VEGAS baby!! Yep, NFR is just around the corner and OTRR will be there. You know the old saying “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?” Well, not when the Twins are in town!!!!!!! Yep, you heard me, the girls behind the scenes are twins and we are off to Vegas to bring it you! So what do you guys want to see? Drop us a comment, send us an email and LET US KNOW!!  We are taking our video cameras and we are going to bring you Cowboy Christmas, the Strip…hmmm…and whatever else we can find!

So stay tuned and stay with us as On the Rodeo Road loads up, fires up the truck and heads out!!!!!!

Thanks for stopping in..

P.S. We are gonna be doing some giveaways soon! Uh hello? Who doesn’t like freebies???  Ya’ll keep comin back!

There will be more entries from Blue Moon and Guinness-The Twins!

Most professional rodeo athletes know exactly where they rank in the standings as they pursue berths in the National Finals Rodeo.

Dusty Tuckness and his fellow bullfighters have no such knowledge.

Giving their best throughout rodeo’s regular season, their postseason fate lies in the hands of the top bull riders in the world they protect.

Tuckness, a Meeteetse native, got the thumbs-up.

“I’m still kind of on cloud nine,” Tuckness said. “I felt like I had a pretty good season and was feeling pretty good about what I’d done, but you never know.”

Tuckness, who followed in the footsteps of his father, Timber, was selected as an alternate for last year’s NFR in Las Vegas. This year, he took a step forward and will be a part of the three-man crew at the December event, something his father never accomplished.

“He never made it to the NFR, but he’s the reason (read more)

Introducing Lisa Novak, Veteran PRCA Barrel Racer and Great Lakes Circuit Director. Grab a cup of coffee and learn more about Lisa in this four part series.

OTRRLisaNovak1

Lisa, Thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with On the Rodeo Road and talk to us about your rodeo career and your adventures on the road.

How has your year been going so far inside the rodeo arena?
This year my time spent in the rodeo arena has been minimal! I have been riding several young horses getting them ready hopefully for a prosperous career in the rodeo arena.  My young horses have won a little money this year so it has been a rewarding season just knowing they are capable of handling it.

Your win at the DNCFR in 2006 must have felt amazing, what is the one thing that stands out in your mind about the last run to win it?
Gosh the whole week was just amazing but the one thing that really stands out in my mind is how proud I felt of Cash knowing how he really dug down deep and pulled such an amazing run for me. I am not sure who wanted it more him or me!

You have had some major accomplishments in the sport of rodeo, is there a goal you feel you haven’t reached?
Well I feel I have accomplished every goal I have set so far! I guess now I am just enjoying my horses and progress with them and leave next year up to them!

Your horse Cash N Blue, how did you come to own him?
I bought him as a three year old. I owned his full brother and just loved him so it felt appropriate to acquire Cash! He is a once in a lifetime horse and is now enjoying a well deserved retirement

When you load up the trailer to head out, what is one thing you must have?
First and foremost my family! But with school being an issue and my husbands job I have had to learn that they cant be with me all the time! Second needs to be a positive attitude which can easily get left behind after long hours in the truck the weekend before!

Remember to check out www.lisanovak.net

….Stay tuned.. more to come on Lisa!!

There are plenty of reasons Jesse Pohlmann finds his way to the Kansas City area.

This weekend, Pohlmann, a cowboy from Lenexa, will be shooting for a bull-riding championship during the Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo at Kemper Arena, held in conjunction with the American Royal. Performances are 7:30 p.m. today-Saturday, though the opening performance is sold out.

“I think our circuit’s one of the toughest ones in the country,” said Pohlmann, originally from the eastern Missouri community of Sullivan. “We’ve got a lot of good rodeos in our circuit, and the bulls are really good.” (read more)

Graves turned down a pair of steers in 4.2 and 4.3 seconds this past weekend at a rodeo in Billings, Mont.

Neither time was fast enough to finish in the money, but his total time of 8.5 was good enough to split seventh in the aggregate on two for a forgettable $358.

With this year’s regular season already over, the money counts towards next year’s world standings.

The 2005 world champion’s performance at Billings was far more successful — and memorable – a year ago.

The Calgary steer wrestler won the rodeo with a total time of 9.1 seconds to earn $4,434.

At the time, Graves was coming off a devastating knee injury and wondered if he would ever rodeo again. (read more)
